Marking 2 month (Jan 14th 2009)

You can tell a dog’s trouble when he’s -
Scratched the dining table and chewed the paint off one of the legs.
Chewed 2 leashes and 3 collars off
Broken a wedding cake top figurine – this one hurt
Damaged a laptop
And leaves hair all over and he’s not even shedding

Well that’s probably some $$ but I can’t help laughing when I’ve caught him in the act. Quoting from “Anne of Avolea’ we love those kids that are naughty and need our help like Davy :-). It gives a great sense of achievement when I see how much Ozzie has learnt in the last 2 months. He sits when told to, responds to ‘Leave it’ and ‘No’, poses for portraits and comes running when you call him. He goes potty on schedule, eats and drinks well and is really a happy and playful dog. I can tell he loves me, he doesn’t come to me only for food. You can tell his heart is broken when I scold him because he was naughty. He sinks to the floor and creeps to me trying to get back into my good books.

Last night Nayeem and I had a match – he asked Ozzie to get on the couch (something Ozzie’s been forbidden to do) and I said No. Ozzie listened to me and did not climb on the couch. We reversed roles and tried the same commands. This time Nayeem said No and I asked Ozzie to climb on the couch. Of course he climbed :-). Nayeem said he was glad, apparently I have a huge ego and if Ozzie didn’t respond to my commands but did to his, I would give Ozzie a hard time. Hmm that puts it in perspective.

Anyways this blog is about Ozzie and not me, so no biggie. Ozzie’s real funny with his ear medication. He had a bout of ear infection so we had to clean his ears with a solution. Of course he hated it. We practically had to corner him, pin him down and splash his ear interiors. Ever since this episode whenever he sees me or Nayeem with a white bottle he runs for his life. The other day, he ran into the bedroom, jumped on the bed and started burrowing in the white sheets. Not sure what went on in his doggy mind, but we like to think he was trying his best to dig a tunnel to China and escape that way.

Needless to say the last 2 months have been amazing. I never thought he would come in and squeeze between the 2 of us and make his own special place so quickly.

Introducing Ozzie

We've been thinking of adding a dog to our family for the last 2 years, but just kept putting it off until November 14th 2008. Hmm children's day, I wonder what significance that has. We headed over to the Wisconsin Humane Society to just take a look. We spent time with 3 dogs, of which one really made us feel special. He was a slightly built australian shepard, 1 year old white and black hair with an amazing snow white chest. He really loved us, kept prancing around and licking our hands. So we bought some things for him and paid and got him home. The ride back home was confusing for Ozzie. I could tell he was tense, wasn't sure where he was heading to. He had been abandoned by his past owner so we really had no clue about his past. At home, he ran and sniffed around the whole house. We gave him his dinner and some water which he finished pretty quickly. We played some ball with him. He is an amazing retriever but very insecure, kept going after the ball but wouldn't give it up. Seemed to consider it his own and kept licking the ball all the time.
At night we gave him a blanket and put him in the den. We shut the door and went to bed. He started whining, which we initially tried to ignore. The whining slowly turned into barking. We gave in and opened the door. We then proceeded to try and make him sleep in the corridoor. However that did not work either. Finally he slept on the bedroom floor on the blue blanket that was to become his :-)
